By the end of 2020, in our first full year supplying trained volunteers, Dauphin County CASA reached 31 kids. We are proud to be on the scene and making a difference for children in our community who have experienced abuse and neglect. We now want to double our outreach in 2021, serving at least 62 children at-risk! The need is both great and enduring. Because at any given month, as many as 400 children could be involved with child protective services in our county. To rise up, funding for additional staff must be garnered. As such, we called upon the collective superpower of our community through our Everyday Hero Challenge fundraiser!
From June 1st to June 30th, we challenged our heroes to support Dauphin County CASA by logging 62 miles of exercise! They set the schedule, chose their location(s) and activity(s) for the month. On behalf of their crusade, our heroes asked their fans to donate to Dauphin County CASA in honor of their commitment to complete 62 miles. Some combined forces with friends and family as “Super Squad” and sent total funds raised with the team name. Along the way, they took photos of themselves in costume or with your provided shirt and bib# to show off their powers! Dauphin County CASA displayed these photos, comments, and other feedback on our social media feeds along with sponsorship "shout-outs."
Our Everyday Hero Challenge was a wonderful opportunity to thank Dauphin County CASA volunteers and all those in our community who have risked their wellbeing to help one another throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our volunteers are indeed superheroes to vulnerable children, serving bravely through the coronavirus crisis. We align our power with the everyday heroes of this pandemic – the nurses; teachers; counselors; caseworkers; pharmacists; coaches; farmers; postal service; plumbers; electricians; sanitation; clergy; and all others who risked their health at work to address our public needs.
And we plan to draw upon this power once more, calling heroes for our Superhero 5K/Family Fun Run on April 24, 2022!
